Patrick Murray in BaghdadPatrick Murray is a veteran with over twenty-four years active service in the U.S. Army as an Armor Officer and a Foreign Area Officer. He began his career serving along the East-West German border as a tank platoon leader in the 3rd Armored Division, and as a tank company commander in the 3rd Infantry Division. After that, he transitioned to become a Foreign Area Officer, and served multiple tours in the Balkans, the former Soviet Union and Iraq. Most of his Stateside duty was spent living in Northern Virginia, where he served in assignments in the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Joint Staff in the Pentagon and in the State Department.

Patrick believes strongly that there is no greater obligation of a nation than to support its veterans and their families. George Washington, a Virginian and the first Commanding General of the U.S. Army said: "The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by our nation." Patrick will fight to ensure veterans receive the benefits and services they have earned and deserve.

With some 800,000 veterans in residence, Virginia has one of the largest per capita populations of veterans of any state, many of whom reside in the 8th District. Patrick has made veterans' outreach in the VA 8th district a top priority.
